Volunteer

Honor a Life of Service. Stand with Us.

The Mason Dixon Nurse Honor Guard (MDNHG) is a volunteer group of active and retired nurses dedicated to honoring the compassion, sacrifice, and lifelong service of our colleagues.

We proudly serve Franklin and Fulton Counties in Pennsylvania, while also assisting surrounding areas when available.

What We Do

We provide meaningful ceremonial tributes for nurses who have passed or are nearing the end of life, including those in hospice care.

At the request of families or funeral homes, we attend:

  • Memorial services
  • Visitations
  • Funeral services
  • Honor Walks

Our tributes may include:

  • The Nightingale Tribute
  • Final Call of Duty ceremony
  • Honor guard presence during services

Each ceremony is a powerful and respectful way to recognize a nurse’s lifelong dedication to caring for others.

Who Can Volunteer

Membership is open to individuals who are committed to honoring the nursing profession with professionalism and compassion.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing
  • Have a deep respect for the nursing profession
  • Be willing to participate in services as your schedule allows

What to Expect

Volunteering with the Nurse Honor Guard is both meaningful and flexible.

  • Participation in services is completely voluntary
  • You will be notified of upcoming tributes and may attend based on your availability
  • Monthly meetings are held, and attendance is strongly encouraged
  • Guidance and expectations will be provided to all members

Every volunteer plays an important role in creating a respectful and memorable tribute for the nurse and their family.

Uniform & Presentation

To maintain a professional and traditional appearance, members are responsible for obtaining their own uniform.

Required attire includes:

  • White nursing dress or white top and pants
  • White shoes
  • White nylons (if wearing a dress)
  • Nursing cap
  • Nursing cape

This uniform reflects the history, dignity, and honor of the nursing profession.

Why It Matters

For many families, the Nurse Honor Guard ceremony becomes one of the most meaningful moments of the service.

It is a final acknowledgment of a life dedicated to caring for others — a way to say thank you for years of compassion, skill, and service.
